Choose the folder containing your STL files in Gatterie and open a model in the built-in STL viewer. Rotate and zoom to inspect its shape and details from different angles. Files stay in their folders: Gatterie does not move, rename or delete them. Rendering depends on the model; unsupported variants remain accessible as format tiles. The released Mac version requires a Mac with Apple silicon.

Quick Look previews depend on macOS and installed apps. Unknown, executable and hidden files are not added to the gallery.

For many people, yes. Like Picasa, Gatterie works directly with the folders on your computer, without import or account, and offers a quick overview, tags, ratings and simple image editing. Gatterie does not take over albums or edits from Picasa; instead it adds RAW files, videos, documents, 3D models and optional local AI.

According to IrfanView's own FAQ (as of October 2026), there is no native Mac version; it describes workarounds using Windows compatibility tools. If you are looking for an image viewer for your folders on the Mac, you can try Gatterie: choose folders and browse images, RAW files, videos and PDFs, without import. Gatterie doesn't move, rename or delete your files. It does not replace every IrfanView feature; the formats Gatterie shows are listed in the answer about file formats.

Standard image editing and metadata export create a new image copy. EXIF, IPTC and XMP can be read directly from the file. AI results start as drafts for you to review.

Only an explicitly selected expert option can change the original after a warning.

No. File management, search, 3D and the image editor work without additional AI. For AI suggestions, optionally connect a compatible local service such as LM Studio or Ollama. The model is set up separately.

Tags, descriptions and content drafts can be created in German and English. Review the results before accepting them or writing them to a file.

With Gatterie Trial, you can try the app for 14 days for free on your own folders – with no registration, no email address, no payment details and no cloud. The trial period starts the first time you open the app and is checked locally on your Mac. Like the full version, Gatterie Trial does not move, rename or delete your files.

The available trial is Gatterie Trial 6.0.4 (build 62). It is based on the same source version as App Store release 6.0.4 and also includes the experimental DWG viewer with the limitations described above.

The full version is a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store (no license key entry). When switching, simply open the same folders in the App Store version: your star ratings, tags and exported image copies stay in place. Afterwards, you can move Gatterie Trial from Applications to the Trash – nothing changes in your folders. After the 14 days end, your files, folders, stars and tags likewise remain unchanged.

• Music in Gatterie: MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, AIFF and FLAC open right in the large view and keep playing while the window is in the background.
• Visualizers: Gatterie draws moving images that react to the beat and sound of your music – from Bars and Ring to Tunnel, Kaleidoscope and Fractal, Nebula and Bloom. In Auto mode the effects change at fitting moments in the music with a soft crossfade.
• Title list: a tab of its own in the right sidebar shows what comes next. Move titles, take them out and add them back; Gatterie remembers the list for each library. Your files stay unchanged.
• Playback you know: at the end of a title or video, the next one starts automatically. You can also repeat the list or a single title, stop at the end, or shuffle.
• Graphic equalizer: in the EQ tab, shape the sound with sliders and presets such as Rock, Jazz, Classical or Bass boost. It only affects playback in Gatterie, not your files.
• Large view in your theme: the info panel, bars and buttons of the single photo view now match the chosen theme, from plush and wood to marble. The area around the photo stays neutral so colours stay true.
• The App Store version 6.1 has been submitted to Apple for review.

• New light and dark themes: Pastel · Vanilla, Pastel · Night and Marble · Black gold. Dark themes turn the whole interface dark, including dialogs, menus and the gallery.
• Format filter per library: the Formats menu can remember your selection for a single library. A notice bar shows how many files are currently hidden; hidden files stay unchanged in their folders.
• Plans in the viewer: DWG and DXF plans open face on without perspective, zoom goes deeper, and older DWG drawings are shown more completely.
• Cropping: cropped copies no longer get a light grey edge row.

Gatterie supports Apple Family Sharing: buy it once and members of your family group can use it too – for example kids who want to look at their 3D printing models.

One purchase includes all released features, including 3D, the image editor and themes. No in-app purchases or subscription. A future major generation may be a new purchase; Gatterie 6 remains usable without a time limit.

Gatterie is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. For managing photos alone there are free programs, and anyone who only browses images will usually be happy with them — Gatterie would then be more than you need.

Gatterie is worth it when the same folders hold more than images: PDFs, office documents, archives, fonts, source code as well as 3D and CAD files. Searching that collection in one view, seeing previews and rotating models directly is the difference. Add the built-in image editor and local AI — both without an account, without a cloud and without monthly costs.

Whether that is worth the price depends on what is in your folders.
